"Boiled into Softening"

Can I just be astrologically superficial for a moment and say that I’m kinda ready for Mars to go ahead and get out of Gemini? LOL…I KNOW there’s no such things as a “bad” placement, and Mars in Gemini has a lot of useful energy to offer, especially for learning new things, writing, communicating, etc….but it also implies communicative arguments, confrontations, battles of will, or stubbornly adhered to ideas and opinion that can selfishly lead to problems….It’s still right at the sun pretty much too, so it’s even more ego-charged with more potential to become individually inflaming! Plus, Mercury still being retrograde in the same sign sure doesn’t help, as it could increase the likelihood of misunderstandings and other assorted communicative issues…so conversation could be apt to get hot and bothered….Mix this into a 12th scenario (for me personally), and we’re dealing with unconscious energies that are difficult to be expressed and understood in a personal context anyways….Sheesh!

Well, I’m working today to turn this energy around by applying these autopilot impulses into a more consciously directed form. Putting this energy and drive (Mars) into writing (Gemini) is step one. Slowing down to do some introspective consideration (Mercury retrograde) of different facts, ideas, and perspectives (Gemini) is step two. To tie it up with a bow, I’ll stir together this passion (Mars) and intellect (Mercury) to create an emotionally resonant piece of poetry (12th house). Now THAT’S how you take astrological lemons… and make an L.I.T. ;P~

Just for fun, I thought it might be neat to take a look at the different ways a person is likely to take action when expressing their anger/frustration by examining the sign/house placement of their natal Mars. Here’s a quick rundown:

Mars in Aries/1st house: boldly takes independent action to do something THEY want to do…or just fights it out the old-fashioned way…

Mars in Taurus/2nd house: holds in the anger to become a solid “bullfrog” that will not be budged or affected by whatever seems frustrating…or goes shopping to spend money and acquire things

Mars in Gemini/3rd house: talks about and discusses the agitation, gets into arguments, takes a drive around town, or writes about it

Mars in Cancer/4th house: cooks, eats, focuses on tasks around house or other family members’ issues, or just works overtime to make themselves feel safe, cozy, and comfortable

Mars in Leo/5th house: creates a piece of art to channel the emotion, engages in excessive fun/pleasure/play, or creates a dramatic scene on display…

Mars in Virgo/6th house: becomes very critical of others or the environment, trying to enforce improvements/changes, or just gets busy setting themselves into a flurry of work on daily tasks like cleaning or organizing

Mars in Libra/7th house: strives to distract themselves from their agitation by focusing on someone else, distracts themselves through superficially social activity, or becomes engaged in personal confrontations

Mars in Scorpio/8th house: quietly seethes while plotting the best way to unleash their anger, possibly destroying something related to their perceived source of agitation….or works it out through sex

Mars in Sagittarius/9th house: spontaneously goes off for a big adventure/trip or tries to philosophically/spiritually examine the nature of the frustration, and its inherent meaning, to better understand it

Mars in Capricorn/10th house: gets busy with a big project, or pours the energy into some aspect of a career focus….does something physically practical to displace the emotional unrest

Mars in Aquarius/11th house: gets involved with some sort of group activity or intellectualizes the situation to detach from the emotion…or just suddenly explodes

Mars in Pisces/12th house: goes within themselves and shuts out the world to escape from the situation or egotistically takes a self-deceptive stance of spiritual superiority with regards to having only compassion in the face of turmoil…or turns to drugs/drinking to escape from the frustrated emotions

Soooo, maybe you can see which approaches you turn to most often and notice if they match your own natal Mars’ approach. We’re all likely to express the full spectrum over the course of our life (after all, Mars does constantly transit all the signs, aspecting various natal planets along the way), but you’ll likely notice that you gravitate to some approaches more than others. If a certain approach grabs your attention, but doesn’t match your Mars’ sign/house location, consider the nature of any other planets/signs/houses Mars may be in natal aspect to, as well as the position and condition of Pluto, another fiercely volatile energy, which also happens to be the higher octave of Mars.

Speaking of Pluto….right now, transiting Venus be squaring my own natal “ambassador of Scorpio”….and while I have that configuration natally too, the transiting version makes its concerns more immediate. Soooo, in effort to exercise/exorcise any pent-up energy seeking transformation, I’ll exit with a poem I’ve written to express these themes in a healthy, creative, and artistic way:

“Boiled into Softening”

Power struggles
To be released
Through any open wound
Worked wide enough to warrant
Agitated investigation into the soul of what matters,
Arresting deterioration
Prolonged by dead compulsions.

Values called into question
Transmute fertile decay,
Softening obstinate decadence
For a “farewell flush” and “plow through purge.”

Old habits, tied up in knots,
All itch to be unraveled
By volcanically assessing
Unconsciously obsessive tides…

Such a push to barrel through,
Right down to the bottom floor,
Roots out the faulty plumbing
Leaking garbage from the core.

The lap of lazy luxury
Cannot ignore such overflow,
As what’ pushed down is volatized,
Heated openings rise up to glow.

Ironically, the shit must surface,
Any way its form must take,
So what’s complacent is fired forward,
Shaking sleeping beauty awake.

Dancing through the muddy mildew,
Accumulated through ages past,
Requires a fixedity of commitment,
Dedicated to sifting through Time’s sand--
Perpetually weeding out clogged traumas
Re-births harmonies that transcend limitations…
