Numbers and Elements and Overlap--Oh My!

As my mind continues to explore the world of archetypes and symbolism, the astrological landscape continues to be the ripest for the picking. It amazes me how many connections can be drawn among the various signs, with particular regard to the various number sets that are inherent among them.

Before getting into the actual astrological references, mathematically, some fascinating things come through in metaphysically metaphorical terms. If you want to dive into the astrology end of things, you can scroll down to its re-introduction in all caps. However, a brief pondering into the nature of numbers and ordering systems might be fun…

The number 0, as a yonic symbol, also pictorially symbolizes the vagina, and thus, the feminine/yin/etc. It is one whole to itself—a “beautiful nothing”…and everything potential all at once. When we start to step away from it, in a matter that is respective to a total “all and nothing” type of experience, we have -1 and 1, and a number line split away to infinity in TWO directions. From One, comes Two, but two in this way is in reference to the directions one may go, and a sense of polarity and charge to things—positive and negative. Returning to One then becomes a balancing act of again neutralizing the charge down to 0, which would be neutral. However, from another perspective, first out of the womb of the yonic 0 is always (even if polarized to be positive or negative) 1. In this way, while 0 is where 1 must inevitably come from (and go to), we often dismiss it when dealings are now with particularized things…1 is a phallic symbol pictorially, and so it can be understood to represent the masculine/yang. It is also one whole to itself—a “beautiful something”…and all other whole “somethings” that usher forth from it and are whole likened to themselves also partake of the fundamental nature of this first 1.

In relationship to 0, one strikes a couple cords. For one, if 0 is a neutral homeostasis that exists [all is OFF], the movement to 1 suggests a rush of force and an energy burst [turned ON] that can equate it with first activity. Hence 1 (masculine/yang) often represent the active. Along the other line, if 0 is thought to represent the absence of someTHING, 1 can be seen to represent its presence. So one branch is from the Nothing to the Something, and in this way, a linear path is established away from nothing towards an infinite amount of something.

((weird rambling…This 2 x 2 view of seeing one go into two, in two ways, creates four, where a three in the middle is the point of synthesis between any fracturing where both of any duality are unified….the shape of a square pyramid can reference the connectivity of sequence from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 and can imply or not imply 0….the differentiation of force and form through bursting with activity toward 2 polarized directions vs. following a linear accumulation through time and space also can correlate to the Tree of Life as Keter flows into Chokmah and Binah, and the path of the lightning bolt equates other characteristics as a result of the considered sequence/order.))

This second view of One splitting, by seeing 1 move to 2…before continuing to 3, 4, and so on, tends to, as previously mentioned, forget about 0. This discrepancy can be the cause of much suffering…some existential pun intended. It rings of A truth, but doesn’t include the whole picture of how things can be viewed. In fact, it could be suggested that 1, through phallic representation, and the demonstration of “fallic” superiority, pushes 0 out of the picture...represses Her…discredits Her…forgets about her…and to whatever degree she’s not also considered, things will never truly “add up” (and out) correctly All the Way. However, to momentarily consider 1’s system and postulation of moving forward through more “something”, 1 can still tell us there’s one total universe, mind, etc. And moving to 2 can allow us to see and understand that there can become two ways to see things, or two versions that things can be experienced as. And when we get that those 2/two truths are really 1/one, we can add it up to see 3, and the holy trinity that serves to connect things. And we can either understand that each new step is essentially issued forth from 1 foundational truth (adding 1 repetitively), or we could even “secretively” (since the realm that includes the 0 and may splinter in two directions is oft forgotten to be included…) see that a step to two is taking place 2 times (a positive and negative form) which could help us imply the presentation of 4…either way will grow it forward to 4 and beyond…and truthfully, a little of both perspectives is needed to spiral together the why and how of it all. It’s these systems/archetypes of 1, 2, 3, and 4 that are so prominently, and intricately, utilized in astrology that help account for so many other patterns further out.

ASTROLOGY ANGLE BEGINS…

To begin the astrological dimension of this study, each sign is an archetype all its own, a single unit capable of standing alone, and the totality of all 12 signs comprises a grander whole that stands together. From this, the number association of one is evident.

Beyond this, each sign is opposite that of another, and this duality suggests a binary set of two. As such, the various signs are also classed as being “masculine” or “feminine”, according to their elemental nature, which I’ll explore shortly. This split seems to most clearly indicate the different in yin (passive) or yang (active) energy (although others active/passive archetypes like cardinal, fixed, and mutable also overlap to modify these over simplifications further, as will be explained.). Also, when the zodiac wheel is divided in half along the vertical or horizontal axis, a division between two rather distinct “classes” of signs can be seen, loosely based on the concept of “self” vs. “other.” Vertically, those on the left generally pertain to the concept of one’s own personal world, while those on the right have more of an emphasis on the relationship with others and their world. Horizontally divided, those on the bottom deal with the personal dimension of life inside oneself, while the top half speaks more to the concept of the external world and environment.

Going further, there is a wealth of active symbolism pertaining to the number three. The various signs of the same element are classed as being cardinal, fixed, or mutable. This sequence provides a very unique level of differentiation. Also, while looking at the signs in this order offers new insight, one can also arrange signs of the same element according to their placement around the wheel from the “beginning” (Aries) to the “end” (Pisces). For the fire and water signs, this arrangement of three is the same in either cases, but it is slightly different, with extra implications, for earth and air. I plan to go into these systems of much more in depth through this exploration. Furthermore, there are three signs houses in each of the four quadrants of the total. Signs of a similar quadrant share a focus connected with where they are in relation to the fundamental vertical and horizontal axes mentioned prior.

Finally, the signs are divided into a system of four in connection with the elements earth, air, fire, and water. Each of these elements contains traits that are all their own, but they also find a place within the system of two when compared to their opposite/complement, and, as I will be looking into closer, there is actually a perspective that can explain how the system of three is also integrated into an eventually quadratic configuration.

Furthermore, when one explore what quadrant of the wheel a set of signs fall, another classification of four exists; the first three signs essentially pertaining to ourselves from inside ourselves, the second three correlate to how our inside self is functioning and affected in relation to others, the third three refer to signs that focus on how others affect us, and we them, out in the world at large, and the final three signs correspond with how our sense of self impacts, and is impacted by, the outside world. (Each quadrant also does bear some relation to the nature/focus/theme of a particular element, set-up by the nature of which one “initiates” the quadrant. More on that later…)

Much has been written about how earth and water are the feminine elements and fire and air are masculine. A different division can also be made to cite that earth and air are more of the external (exoteric) elements--more rational, objective, and focused out in the world. To contrast, fire and water are considered to be more internally based (esoteric-- more irrational, subjective, and focused within one’s self. These classifications are fairly common to find material about, and reference to, already. However, I have not found as much that explores the different ways that the astrological sets of three can be created, as well as how they would apply in light of there being four elements. Hopefully, my investigation will help to shed some light on the possibility of these connections.

To start, I’d like to explore the system of three that isn’t as prevalently relayed as the modalities (cardinal, fixed, mutable). This system is dependent on the order the signs appear in the chart by element. For example, since Aries is first, the next fire sign is Leo, and the last one is Sagittarius. This example, like the water signs, follows the same pattern as the modalities. However, when we look at the earth signs, the first one encountered would be Taurus, then Virgo, and then Capricorn. There are some general themes that hold true for the various signs depending on their order in this sequence. Following is a list that places each elemental class of signs in the order they come out from the start of the zodiac wheel:

Fire: 1) Aries, 2)Leo, 3)Sagittarius

Earth: 1) Taurus, 2) Virgo, 3) Capricorn

Air: 1) Gemini, 2) Libra, 3) Aquarius

Water: 1) Cancer, 2) Scorpio, 3) Pisces

This setup also simply reflects that those numbered 1 are the first four signs of the wheel, those numbered 2 are the second four, and the group of number 3 are the final four. Through this lens of configuration, there are commonalities between the 1st element of each sign, the 2nd, and the 3rd. In short, those numbered 1 pertain to a more personal level of life. Those numbered 2 reflect how an individual expression works in conjunction with others, and the ones numbered 3 show how an individual energy connects with the total collective, group, or “all.” Allow me to give a brief rundown:

Aries--PERSONAL: this sign pertains to one’s own personal drive, actions, and identity. This energy is direct and straight-forward in a concern to know and activate oneself at a very instinctual level. Exploration and experiences are engaged in based on personal desire.

Leo--OTHERS: this sign pertains to how one’s creative individuality is expressed to others, and their reception of it. This energy implies an “audience” which provides feedback to further shape the individual’s expression of unique identity.

Sagittarius--COLLECTIVE: this sign pertains to how one’s individual identity connects to the larger whole of the cosmos. It focuses on the similarities among itself and others as relevant to the natural laws that govern and orchestrate all aspects of life from a general, “big picture” viewpoint.

Taurus--PERSONAL: this sign pertains to one’s own personal values, resources, skills, and possessions. The focus is one satisfying one’s tastes according to whatever they personally find valuable. It also implies the personal skills that one inherently has to develop further.

Virgo--OTHERS: this sign pertains to how one’s skills and modes of service are made available to others. It reflects the method one utilizes to go about maintaining practical efficiency by implementing and testing its proficiency in an environment saturated with other people, roles, and facets.

Capricorn--COLLECTIVE: this sign pertains to how one takes physical action to “make their mark” in the world at large. Here is where all the hard work one is personally capable of is offered up to the scrutiny of society’s system, structure, and expectations. This energy is one that concerns itself with tangible achievements that can be measured and appreciated by the collective.

Gemini--PERSONAL: this sign pertains to one’s personal thought process style and manner of communication. This is the energy where one determines their personal opinions and ideas from the context of their local environment. These opinions and ideas then form the basis of how one expresses themselves to others.

Libra--OTHERS: this sign pertains to one’s interactions with others in the world, most specifically in a one-to-one situation, but also in a general sense. Its concern is finding a balance and harmony between one’s self and some other through a variety of different types of interactions with others.

Aquarius--COLLECTIVE: this sign pertains to how one’s intellectual findings play into the context of society as a whole. Here, one’s objective analysis of a concept is held and used to help contribute to the collective advancement and wellness. Conclusions are considered in a detached context that considers the needs of the many over the needs of the individual.

Cancer--PERSONAL: this sign pertains to one’s inner emotional landscape. Its concern is with individual feelings that arise from a variety of stimuli. Personal feelings are the central issue here that determines how and why one takes action in order to ensure an individual state of calmness and sense of self-security.

Scorpio--OTHERS: this sign pertains to the emotional interactions that are instigated between oneself and others. Here, one encounters the level of relationships that get to the deeper, emotional issues of how one is, and why they are that way, based on observations of (and interactions with) others and their underlying nature.

Pisces--COLLECTIVE: this sign pertains to the collective level of emotion that connects all life. This energy is one in which empathy is opened up to the feeling landscape of the state of society, and the larger issues of existential suffering that is faced by all beings that must exist in space and time, yet are still somehow beyond such.

From these descriptions, one can see how the personal/individual, other/relational, and all/collective modes of life are expressed through the archetypes of the various signs. Another brief discrimination can be made between the signs (in these same orderings) according to consideration of what each element symbolizes:

Earth=BODY and physicality (sensation)

Water=SOUL and emotions (feelings)

Air=MIND and intellect (thoughts) [also pertains to the social…]

Fire=SPIRIT and identity (intuition)

Let’s go ahead and differentiate between these levels. The body is simply the world of form, and everything that is physical. The mind is simply one’s intellect, directed in one direction or another. Soul and spirit are a bit more difficult to separate. Spirit is akin to one’s higher self, the spark of life that animates action, as an individualized aspect of the Godhead. It is permanent and unchangeable, and is who we are at the highest level. Soul is the aspect of oneself that is in connection to, and influenced by, others. One’s soul may grow and change according to various experiences and interactions. The soul level of an individual would be a conglomerate of all the learning one has achieved through life interactions. It is in connection to the idea of karma and past lives also. One’s soul may currently find expression as a particular individual, but that expression is actually the composite of experiences that have simply coalesced into their present state. These distinctions are somewhat subtle, but I hope that some further examples and illustrations will help clarify the differences. Let’s run through the signs with this lens:

Aries=personal spirit/identity

Leo=interactive spirit/identity

Sagittarius=collective spirit/identity

Cancer=personal soul/emotions

Scorpio=interactive soul/emotions

Pisces=collective soul/emotions

Gemini=personal mind/thoughts

Libra=interactive mind/thoughts

Aquarius=collective mind/thoughts

Taurus=personal body/skills

Virgo=interactive body/skills

Capricorn=collective body/skills

Now, I’d like to re-introduce the astrological trinity of cardinal, fixed, and mutable signs. Here’s a table to layout which is which, with signs of same the same element being vertical respectively:

Cardinal= Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn

Fixed= Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, Taurus

Mutable=Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini, Virgo

For any case, there are some similar traits for all signs of a cardinal, fixed, or mutable nature, regardless of element.

Cardinal=starting up. initiating—action

Fixed=holding together, stabilizing—security

Mutable=dispersing, adjusting—learning

Considering the signs with this lens, as well as the elemental associations, we can build some general concepts:

Aries=identity/spirit in action

Leo=identity/spirit security

Sagittarius=identity/spirit learning

Cancer=emotional/soul action

Scorpio=emotional/soul security

Pisces=emotional/soul learning

Libra=mental/social action

Aquarius=mental/social security

Gemini=mental/social learning

Capricorn=physical action

Taurus=physical security

Virgo=physical learning

With a little more insight, let’s breakdown the flow by element:

Fire: First, with Aries, the individual spirit is simply taking action to get itself “out there.” At Leo, the spirit is expressed in a more creative way, and it receives feedback/confirmation of itself through some audience of others which it uses to recognize and sustain its “shine.” Finally, in Sagittarius, the range of one’s spirit is made more broad and increased/expanded out so as to include a bigger vision of who one is in the context of the collective and its interconnected truth.

Water: First, with Cancer, the individual soul and emotional energy is used to nurture, especially oneself. In Scorpio, it is merged with some “other” in order to become stronger, and more stable. Then, in Pisces, the energy is dispersed so as to erase all boundaries and equalize the energy as one.

Air: First, with Libra, relationships and interactions are initiated socially to compare oneself against some other (social conversation). With Aquarius, one’s mental and social sphere is solidified according to analyzed, objective conclusions reached through one’s experimentation (math and science). Finally, with Gemini, social and mental learning takes place as more ideas are explored and communicated from a variety of perspectives/angles (writing and literature).

Earth: Capricorn starts out by pushing forward to build something of importance/substance out of nothing. Taurus works to maintain, nourish, and fortify any existing forms of value. Then, Virgo works to figure out better ways to organize and re-arrange existing components in order to maximize optimal efficiency and utilization.

Throughout these layers of exploring, the systems of three (the modality of being cardinal, fixed, or mutable) and four (elements of earth, air, fire, and water) have a sense of connection of flow. Different information is revealed when ordering the three signs of the same element according to a) the order of their modality, and b) the order in which they occur around the wheel. I’d now like to offer two additional lenses that suggest further perspectives of overlap. One follows the nature of how the four elements (earth, air, water, fire) can be experienced to have more resonant connection to a certain modality (carinal, fixed, and mutable.) This then can also be enhanced when it’s considered that the cardinal, fixed, and mutable expressions could have correlational resonance with the id, ego, and superego of psychology. When these two levels combine, each element can be seen as home to the id, ego, and superego of its particular form of experience.

First of all, when thinking of the id, ego, and superego, certain attributes should be generally defined. The id represents one’s more “primal” nature. It’s the instinctual urge to take action towards gratifying desire. It’s raw. The ego, then, is our actual “personality.” It’s the mostly stabilized representation of who we are as an individual, as it mediates between the highly active, raw, instinctual dimension of the id, as well as the contrast of the superego, in order to actualize a generally solid expression. The superego can be thought of as one’s “conscience” or the dictates of learned rules, expectations, and “civilization” that seeks to refine one’s actions into more acceptable expressions--less primal than what is sought by the raw id. The id and superego can then respectively be equated to one’s “lower self” and “higher self.” Here, the “lower self” favors raw, basic, herd-associated, animalistic, extrinsically based pleasure and fulfillment from gratifying subjective cravings, while the “higher self” favors refined, complex, individualized, civilized, intrinsically based pleasure and fulfilment from adhering to objective conclusions. The two sides work in paradoxical concert, while the ego molds itself to ride out the wave of mediating between the two approaches. All three components (id, ego, and superego) each have a core approach/avoidance dichotomy they “live” by as well. The id reaches toward gratification while it seeks to avoid denial/deprivation. The ego reaches toward life (and being/existing) and seeks to avoid death (not being/not existing). The superego reaches towards doing and being “right” while it seeks to avoid doing and being “wrong.” As such, each essentially “lives” by its own “code of conduct” according to those dueling/”dual-ing” desires.

Relating the nature of this “psychological trinity” to the cardinal, fixed, and, mutable triad would seem to fit with the following assignments:

Cardinal=Id

Fixed=Ego

Mutable=Superego

For each triad, the cardinal aspect is the base, the starting point. As such, it is the most raw, primal (or prime), constituent of its set. It seeks to express the nature of its element in full, and may be the most active in the pursuit to gratify whatever its core needs/desires are.

The fixed aspect is a tempered expression that reflects the sense of consistent outer “identity” which the element is capable of forming. It behaves in a more or less solid way, acting as the contained regulation of its element, under control and stabilized.

The mutable aspect is constantly seeking refinement to be “better” according to the dictates behind its elemental (and elementary) drive. It adheres to this elemental/elementary code of conduct and standard of importance throughout its seeking to reach a “higher” expression of its fundamental nature.

Now, we can also look at these two methods of linking the sets of three and see how the four elements can also be layered. The correlation could be seen as:

Cardinal/Id= Fire

Fixed/Ego=Earth

Mutable/Superego=Water/Air

Water and air are more interchangeable, and the rationale behind this can easily be explained through observation. Much akin to the symbolic tree of life of Qabalah, picture the nature of all manifestation (the macrocosm) and one’s self (the microcosm), to fundamentally behave as Spirit descending into (and filling/permeating, while also being) Matter. As such, the “fire” of Spirit’s light is very etheric. As it “falls” and condenses, there is a realm of subtle matter as “air” or thoughts in the mind. This “air” condenses further, connecting to coagulate into liquid “water.” Finally, this “water” crystalizes into a solid structure, or physical occurrence/manifestations, as a particularized feature of “earth.” Throughout this cascade, the realm of “water” and “air” is the most changeable, with each expression capable of integrating with the other, AS WELL AS an additional element: “fire” and/or “earth.” In this way, the archetypes of “water” and “air” are both dual and changeable (each capable of partaking from, or feeding into, two different, juxtaposed elemental natures) just like what is implied in the nature of being “mutable.” This is even reflected in the natural water cycles of condensation and evaporation. Metaphysically, when thoughts/”air” begin to lower, personalize, and make connections, water droplets are formed, symbolizing emotion and relatability. On the other end, when “watery” emotions are too personal, subjective, and irrational, some thoughtful attention and objective reason will separate the facets until a more rational understanding and perspective can be assessed in the “air” through evaporating the moisture. As such, there’s a constant cycling and refinement going on through such levels in these ways.

With respect to “fire” and “earth,” the fire is the spark of life/spirit that animates all and gives a burning desire for action, and the earth is the physical vehicle through which the actions are physically, actually accomplished. There would seem to be more “degrees of separation” between the two, which is why the body and spirit have so relentlessly been cast as opposites that compete with one another. To the contrary, each implies the other as necessary, as each contains the essence of the other. It’s the complementary positions of force (verb) and form (noun), and the only “opposition” or “competition” between the two is due to distorted misunderstanding. They both flow into and out of the other in paradoxical concert, “lubricated” by the medium of water/air that cycles between them.

From this perspective, and in light of association to a sense of “trinity” while also adhering to the fundamental nature of each element, fire can be likened to Spirit, earth to Body, and water/air to Soul. It is the “soul level” that connects, or bridges, Spirit to Body (or flesh/form). It represents the connection between the Collective and the Particular, the All and the One, the intangible and the tangible, etc. Both water, as emotions, and air, as thoughts/communication, represent a constant, cyclic exchange and changeability, which acts as the fluid field across which information is connected and isolated, synthesized and analyzed, condensed and evaporated. This Soul level is what mediates between the transition of Spirit and Body.

One can also consider symbolically how fire literally transforms earth from something (wood or matter of some type) into nothing (ash). It acts to release the energy held inside the form back into the all. When something is wet, it does not catch on fire. Water is synonymous with living life. Dead things dry up. One can consider how air fuels fire, and the air could represent the specific build, individualization, and particularity of the earthy form. It is its “type” of form, and how that form behaves from its constitution. It is by the shape of these “airy” directions/directives that the form is molded. Once something is dead, it more or less holds its form until the decay of time (earthiness) whittles it too away. Again, to add a metaphysical perspective, the “fire” is like energy and individuation of spirit, while “water” could be its form(s). “Air” is like the energy and individuation of a more concrete nature than “fire,” and “earth” is the earthy sameness inherent in concrete forms concerning their compositional make-up. Fire, like a sea of All as energy, eventually offshoots “free radicals” (just meaning individually particularized particles), which are emitted (progressively cooled off at the tip/edge of a fiery “solar wave” to a point of “shooting off” from its source) to carry a uniqueness to them while all stemming from the same divine origin. Each particle is akin to an individualized, “air”-based, mind. From here, further cooling and self-configuration brings together these particles with other particles that are attracted and resonate according to the interplay of high and low pressures formed among the similar configuration/constitution between each. As bigger wholes form through such connection, the air cools and congeals into “water” where its interconnectedness and relationships within the new collective are emphasized, while it still may gravitate to one side or the other as warm/cool areas of differentiation are still possible. Eventually, these connections can cool down further, solidifying/crystallizing into a solid “earth” form of sameness. At such a level, there is no fluid discrepancy between warmer or cooler—the entire structure is uniform, and again reaches a level of all being the All as sharing a common, base form instead of expressing a common origin of energy as it was while being “fire.” The levels flow paradoxically and move in two ways, with respect from sameness to diversity, from One to All, and from the particular to the collective:

-from One in Sameness with regards to the Particular-- same material make-up in earth (congealed through intermediary water) to All in Diversity with regards to the Particular--different particular forms in earth (architected by intermediary “air”)

And

-from One in Diversity with regards to the Collective--different individual sparks of spirit/identity (architected by intermediary “air”) to All in Sameness with regardless to the Collective--same origin and connectivity in fire/spirit (congealed through intermediary “water”).

[[Also to note, earth equating with the particular and water equating with sameness both imply their famous “yin”/passive/feminine associations. Both indicate a settled form, a stability and tranquil completeness—always a concise singularity and always a similar foundation. Fire equating with the collective and air equating with diversity both imply the “yang”/active/masculine associations. Both indicate an unsettled form, a volatility, and dynamic incompletion—always a an expanding whole and always more variety.]]

As such, while the Cardinal/Id is consistently fire, and Fixed/Ego is consistently earth, the Mutable/Superego signs may blend of an air and water nature, while swinging more heavily in one direction or the other. Both water and air can be seen to “cycle” between earth and fire, while differently expressing either the collective or particularized dimension of each, through themselves as a medium. These levels of combination fluctuate in their leaning towards one emphasized expression or the others as they apply to the various signs. We can also gather here that 4 (elements) times a system of 3 (inclusive of any/all system(s) observed) equals a total of 12 signs. For each even number, a polarity exists by division into 2, and for each odd numbered consideration, there are essentially 3 “camps”, with two focusing as more extremes or opposites while the third one is a transitional medium. For any and all cases, both the individual and unified/collective whole of 1 is intrinsic as well.

As signs change around the wheel, compensating shifts occurs on a multi-dimensional level. There is a toggling between “active”/yang (fire and air) and “passive”/yin (water and earth) elements. There is a linear progression around the wheel within each element from personal, to interaction, and finally collective. Also, there is a cycle of cardinal, fixed, mutable that repeats, which is also , as will be shown and outlined, representative of the patterning of id, ego, and superego.

Let’s consider each sign now through this lens:

Aries—As a cardinal fire sign, it would represent the id/instinct (or fire) of fire. In this way, it’s highly active as it seeks to gratify the desires of its identity and spirit. It would constitute the raw, primal energy of fire that initiates and takes action to feed its internal cravings by means of the outer world. For Aries, this translates to the urge towards exciting experiences and activities. It is the pure “spirit” or essence/energy of fire in expression. As the “fire of fire,” Aries represents the nature of spirit being One in Diversity with regards to the Collective as distinguished by accentuating of one’s separate identity, AND All in Sameness with regardless to the Collective as distinguished by the universal, drives, instincts, and desires to reach out that all beings express. Also, the cardinal/id aspect of Aries suggest its primal activity, inherently composed of diversity AND sameness, which simultaneously emphasizes the collective’s sameness (of origin) and individual differences (of personal self-identities). Along these lines, a unification is paradoxically enacted as Aries’s fire actively expresses: the identity of the individual seeks to represent and reflect the identity of the collective, and the identity of the collective seeks to expand so as to allow even more distinct expressions of specialized individuality. The “fieriness” that’s also suggested from that cardinal/id expression also implies the active intent to seek out one’s identity, and the possible discrepancies/confrontations that may be experienced as one evaluates this self-identity against the context of the All.

Taurus—As a fixed earth sign, it would represent the ego/shell (or earth) of earth. In this way, it’s stably composed as it seeks to control and maintain the existence of its physical form(s) and abilities. It would constitute the solid, consistent form of earth that stably anchors itself in mediation between two distinct modes of activity. For Taurus, this translates to the concrete existence of one’s body, possessions, skills, and other resources. It is the pure “body” or container/form of earth in expression. As the “earth of earth,” Taurus represents the output creations of earth, which would be physical items and actions/abilities. It demonstrates One in Sameness with regards to the Particular as distinguished by each individual thing or skill being such that it can be developed by any and all equally through sustained practice, AND All in Diversity with regards to the Particular as distinguished by each individual item or ability being inherently individual and separate. Also, the fixed/ego aspect of Taurus suggests its stable identity, inherently composed of sameness AND diversity, which simultaneously emphasizes the collective’s sameness (of basic physical composition) and individual differences (of being distinctly separate “containers”/beings/forms). Along these lines, a unification is paradoxically implied as Taurus’ earth passively exists: the nature of individual forms is all made of the same fundamental materials at a base level, and the nature of the material “stuff” that forms are made of is capable of being molded into an infinite array of different shapes, sizes, constitutions, and configurations. The “earthiness” that’s also suggested from the fixed/ego expression also implies the passive state of holding onto all earth-based associations (possessions and abilities) of fortifiable value so as to ensure and solidify their continued existence.

Gemini—As a mutable air sign, it would represent the superego/refinement (or air/water) of air. Since it is inherently an air sign, the air dimension of its superego refinement is most accentuated as Gemini essentially “favors” the rules and standards of air (and its mental/social diversity) over water (and its relational sameness). However, the watery aspect that is still latent refers to an innate position that also allows the forming of connections and relationships across various, diverse sides of mental/social information and development in a fundamentally “airy” manner. In this way, it is adjustable as it seeks to learn and improve through adherence to the conclusions of a diversified mental and social nature (with a more dormant, “background” consideration of the more unified emotional and soul aspect.) As such, it would mainly constitute the dual, growth-oriented fluctuations of air that civilize its expression through continual refinement. For Gemini, this translates to the way to go about enhancing one’s knowledge base/scope and articulated communication. It is the pure “soul/mind” or field/idea of air in expression. As the (primarily) “air of air,” Gemini indicates the diversity glorified (different facts/ideas/opinions) through the standards of importance as considered by air. (The watery side applies to allow an understanding of how ideas bear connections to one another through the ways in which they flow out of and into each other.) This is seen as both All in Diversity with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating the personal opinions, thoughts, and communications that are different from others AND One in Diversity with regards to the Collective as distinguished by accentuating the diversification of a universal total/whole into many individualized pieces. Also, the mutable/superego aspect of Gemini suggests its adaptability, inherently composed of diversity, which emphasizes the differences across various dimensions—one way/idea and its opposite. Along these lines, Gemini’s air codes of conduct promotes adjustments between a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent as the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of air occur through analysis among contrastingly oppositional opinions, ideas, and “facts.” (The water’s emphasis on “sameness” complements this by building connections among the differences as information is linked with other information.) The “airiness” that’s also suggested by the mutable/superego expression also implies the drive to make better the methods of knowing and communicating differing pieces of information, while allowing consideration to shift from one to another as inspired. The “watery” aspect of this mutable/superego expression is one which simultaneously seeks improvement by also being able to connect the differing pieces of information as various inter-related perspectives of some, one whole. Finally, the “bottom line” for Gemini (as a fundamentally air sign) with regards to how and why to make adjustments, as the mutable refining of the mind/soul is concerned, pertains to accumulating a greater availability of information and perspectives in the mental/social world. Nothing is “wrong” to the air’s conscience here as long as possibilities and points of view are increased.

Cancer—As a cardinal water sign, it would represent the id/instinct (or fire) of water. In this way, it’s highly active as it seeks to gratify the desires of its emotions and soul. It would constitute the raw, primal energy of water that initiates and takes action to feed its internal cravings by means of the outer world. For Cancer, this translates to the urge for security and comfort like a home, good food, and emotional nurturing. It is the pure “spirit” or essence/energy of water in expression. As the “fire of water,” Cancer indicates the nature of spirit encompassed as a collection of form (through sameness), as both One in Sameness with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating the individual connection to others as having the same fundamental physical/emotional hardwiring/makeup in individual expressions, AND All in Sameness with regards to the Collective as distinguished by the universal needs, emotions, and instincts to take in that all life expresses. Also, the cardinal/id aspect of Cancer suggests its primal activity, inherently composed of sameness, which emphasizes the similarities across various dimensions—inside and outside. Along these lines, Cancer’s water actively expresses amidst a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent as the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of water occur: reflection upon the connection of inner and outer needs, and the needs of self and others, move one to seek addressing one through the other and vice versa. The “fieriness” that’s also suggested by the cardinal/id expression also implies the active intent to seek out ways of emotionally engaging with others, while ensuring the security of inner/outer needs being met, with regards to oneself and then further extended through relationship to others as one confronts an empathy regarding the relatedness of their personal needs to those of others.

Leo—As a fixed fire sign, it would represent the ego/shell (or earth) of fire. In this way, it’s stably composed as it seeks to control and maintain the existence of its specialized spirit and identity. It would constitute the solid, consistent form of fire that stably anchors itself in mediation between two distinct modes of activity. For Leo, this translates as the concrete existence of one’s individuality, special identity, and creativity. It is the pure “body” or container/form of fire in expression. As the “earth of fire,” Leo represents the output creations of fire, which would be inspired works of art, creativity, pleasure, fun, romance, etc. It demonstrates One in Diversity with regards to the Collective as distinguished by accentuating of one’s individual and specialized creative talent and representation, AND All in Sameness with regardless to the Collective as distinguished by the universal inspiration behind all acts of creativity which stem from the same source. Also, the fixed/ego aspect of Leo suggests its stable identity, inherently composed of diversity AND collectivity, which simultaneously emphasizes the collective’s sameness (of inspiration from Source) and individual differences (of being distinctly specialized expressions of creativity). Along these lines, a unification is paradoxically implied as Leo’s fire passively exists: the nature of individual identities all emit from the same one source at a base level, and the nature of unified source of inspiration is capable of being expressed/actualized as an infinite array of different configurations of specialness/creativity. The “earthiness” that’s also suggested from the fixed/ego expression also implies the passive state of holding onto all fire-based associations (creative talents and special identity) of fortifiable value so as to ensure and solidify their continued existence.

Virgo—As a mutable earth sign, it would represent the superego/refinement (or air/water) of earth. Since it is inherently earth-based, it has no stronger attraction to the air or water dimension intrinsically. However, since it is also positioned opposite of Pisces, and Pisces has a strongly accepted claim to the watery realms, the air dimension of Virgo’s superego refinement is most accentuated in complementary compensation. The traditional planetary ruler, Mercury, is also agreed to be an “air planet.” All of this signals that Virgo’s mutability “favors” the rules and standard of air (and its mental/social diversifying) over water (and its relational sameness.) However, the watery aspect that is still latent refers to an innate position that also integrates the connections and relationships among various, diverse aspects of mental/social utilization and development in a fundamentally “earthy” manner. In this way, it is adjustable as it seeks to learn and improve through adherence to the conclusions of a diversified mental and social nature (with a more dormant, “background” consideration of the more unified emotional and soul aspect.) As such, it would mainly constitute the dual, growth/change-oriented fluctuations of air that civilize its expression through continual refinement. For Virgo, this translates to the way to go about enhancing one’s studied and practical understanding of details and efficient distribution/utilization of particular skills/services. It is the pure “soul/mind” or field/idea of earth in expression. As the (primarily) “air of earth,” Virgo indicates the diversity glorified (different autonomous specifics/details/functions) through the standards of importance as considered by air. (The watery side applies to allow an understanding of how all the “parts” also connect and work together in unison.) This is seen as both All in Diversity with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating that separate “pieces” all seem to be made-up differently and function in different ways AND One in Sameness with regards to the Collective as distinguished by accentuating the same universal whole that all functions are supporting through the symphony of individual sections/systems working together. Also, the mutable/superego aspect of Virgo suggests its adaptability, inherently composed of diversity, which emphasizes the differences across various dimensions—one function/job/makeup and a different one. Along these lines, Virgo’s air code of conduct promotes adjustments between a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent as the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of air occur through analysis among contrastingly different positions/roles/jobs/functions. (The water’s emphasis on “sameness” complements this by building connections among the differences as parts are linked with other parts.) The “airiness” that’s also suggested by the mutable/superego expression also implies the drive to make better the methods of perfecting the specific functioning and efficiency of each piece, while allowing consideration to shift from one to another as inspired. The “watery” aspect of this mutable/superego expression is one which simultaneously seeks improvement by being able to connect the differing functions/details/roles as various inter-related dimensions of some, one whole. Finally, the “bottom line” for Virgo (as a fundamentally earth sign) with regards to how and why to make adjustments, as the mutable refining of the mind/soul is concerned, pertains to attaining greater discrimination towards perfection with how something is represented, used, functions, or assimilated in the physical world. Nothing is “wrong” to the earth’s conscience here as long as precision and exactness are increased.

Libra—As a cardinal air sign, it would represent the id/instinct (or fire) of air. In this way, it’s highly actives as it seeks to gratify the desires of its mental and social nature. It would constitute the raw, primal energy of air that initiates and takes action to feed its internal cravings by means of the outer world. For Libra, this translates to the urge for social interactions and relationships with other people. It is the pure “spirit” or essence/energy of air in expression. As the “fire of air,” Libra indicates the nature of spirit encompassed as an individualization of form (through diversity), as both All in Diversity with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating the physical separateness of others as “not self,” AND One in Diversity with regards to the Collective as distinguished by a sense of separate intrinsic identity (mind/thoughts/opinion) from that of another. Also, the cardinal/id aspect of Libra suggests its primal activity, inherently composed of diversity, which emphasizes the differences between two particular dimensions—self and other. Along these lines, Libra’s air actively expresses through a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent to the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of air occurs through analysis of differentiating self and not-self. Libra’s air actively expresses to discover itself through contrast. The “fieriness” that’s also suggested by the cardinal/id expression also implies the active intent to seek out intellectual and social interaction, and the possible confrontations that may be initiated as one’s self “confronts” the not-self.

Scorpio—As a fixed water sign, it would represent the ego/shell (or earth) of water. In this way, it’s stably composed as it seeks to control and maintain the existence of its emotions and soul. It would constitute the solid, consistent form of water that stably anchors itself in mediation between two distinct modes of activity. For Scorpio, this translates as the concrete existence of one’s connection and relationship to the emotions/soul, as well as all the meaning given to these connections and relations. It is the pure “body” or container/form of water in expression. As the “earth of water,” Scorpio represents the output creation of water, which would be emotional relationships, and deeply instilled memories of soul depth. It demonstrates One in Sameness with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating the individual connection to others as going through the same fundamental physical/emotional types of experience as individual souls, AND All in Sameness with regards to the Collective as distinguished by the universal similarities, relationships and bonds that connect us to the broader Oversoul. Also, the fixed/ego aspect of Scorpio suggests its stable identity, inherently composed of sameness, which emphasizes the similarities across various dimensions—one self-motivated and separate from others and one unified, in merged connection with others. Along these lines, a harmonization is approached as Scorpio’s water seeks to passively exist amidst a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent to the fluctuating pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of water occurs through reflection on all relations/connections. Scorpio’s water passively exists in attempt to crystalize deepened associations after investigating which to strengthen due to the degree of which the self-motivated and separate Particularization is unified in merged connection with the Collective, and which to be transformed because they lead to a stagnation of growth from either unduly a) merging with sources of selfish separation or b) separating from connections to larger, merged contexts of power. The “earthiness” that’s also suggested by the fixed/ego expression also implies the passive state of holding onto all water-based associations (emotional/relational memories, soul impressions) of fortifiable values so as to ensure and solidify their continued existence.

Sagittarius—As a mutable fire sign, it would represent the superego/refinement (water/air) of fire. Since it is inherently fire based, it has no stronger connection to the air or water dimension intrinsically. However, since it is also positioned opposite of Gemini, and Gemini has a strongly accepted claim to the air realms, the water dimension of Sagittarius’ superego refinement is most accentuated in complementary compensation. The traditional planetary ruler, Jupiter, would also constitute a fire and WATER blend more than air since it is also a ruler for Pisces, a watery sign. All of this signals that Sagittarius’ mutability “favors” the rules and standard of water (and its emotional/soul unifying) over air (and its mentally/socially individualizing differences.) However, the air aspect that is still latent refers to an innate position that also extends the variety and differences among varied, but similar, unified aspects of emotional/soul expansion and development in a fundamentally “fiery” manner. In this way, it is adjustable as it seeks to learn and improve through adherence to the conclusions of a unified emotional and soul nature (with a more dormant, “background” consideration of the more diversified mental and social aspect.) As such, it would mainly constitute the dual, growth/change-oriented fluctuations of water that civilize its expression through continual refinement. For Sagittarius, this translates to the way to go about enhancing one’s intuitive and visionary understanding of the “big picture” and expansive synthesis of various dimensions of truth together in connection. It is the pure “soul/mind” or field/idea of fire in expression. As the (primarily) “water of fire,” Sagittarius indicates the unity glorified (similar fundamentals/beliefs) through the standards of importance as considered by water. (The airy side applies to allow an understanding of how the “total” also fragments and expresses through variety culturally.) This is seen as both One in Diversity with regards to the Collective as distinguished by accentuating the individual connection to others as having the same basic spiritual/ethical/philosophical impetus towards discovering truth sought in different, individual expressions, AND All in Sameness with regards to the Collective as distinguished by the universal drive to expand its consciousness of itself in larger and more-encompassing ways that all life expresses. Also, the mutable/superego aspect of Sagittarius suggests its adaptability, inherently composed of unity, which emphasizes the similarities across various dimensions—two cultural philosophies presenting one shared, underlying truth. Along these lines, Sagittarius’ water code of conduct promotes adjustments between a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent as the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of water occur through synthesis among comparatively shared beliefs/truths/generalizations/visions. (The air’s emphasis on “differentness” complements this by individualizing variations out of the sameness as versions are separated by perspective.) The “watery” aspect of this mutable/superego expression is one which simultaneously seeks improvement by being able to connect the differing beliefs as various inter-related truths of some, one whole. The “airiness” that’s also suggested by the mutable/superego expression also implies the drive to make better the methods of enjoying the varied spectrum of individual expressions, while allowing consideration to shift from one to another as inspired. Finally, the “bottom line” for Sagittarius (as a fundamentally fire sign) with regards to how and why to make adjustments, as the mutable refining of the mind/soul is concerned, pertains to attaining more expansive perspective on how the interconnected umbrella of truth includes a variety of similar, yet unique, expressions together to synthesize the spiritual identity/vision of the world. Nothing is “wrong” to the fire’s conscience here as long as clarity and cohesion are increased.

Capricorn—As a cardinal earth sign, it would represent the id/instinct (or fire) of earth. In this way, it’s highly active as it seeks to gratify the desires of its physical world. It would constitute the raw, primal energy of earth that initiates and takes action to feed its internal cravings by means of the outer world. For Capricorn, this translates as the urge for strength and power from a solid career, ambitious achievements, and prestige/accomplishment in the world. It is the pure “spirit” or essence/energy of earth in expression. As the “fire of earth,” Capricorn indicates the nature of spirit being One in Sameness with regards to the Particular as distinguished by each individual fundamentally having the same intrinsic goal to progressively succeed at, or erect, something of substance, AND All in Diversity with regards to the Particular as distinguished by each individual earthy achievement of matter being unique and seemingly separate unto itself. Also, the cardinal/id aspect of Capricorn suggests its primal activity, inherently composed of diversity AND collectivity, which simultaneously emphasizes the collective’s sameness (of linear progression) and individual differences (of distinctly “separate” paths of moving forward ). Along these lines, a unification is paradoxically implied as Capricorn’s earth actively expresses: the nature of individual ambitions stem from the same fundamental progression of life at a base level, and the nature of the linear paths forward one can follow are capable of being molded into an infinite array of different experiences along the way. The “fieriness” that’s also suggested from the cardinal/id expression also implies the active intent to seek out ways to take physical action and generate physical momentum through “confrontation” of/with the world.

Aquarius—As a fixed air sign, it would represent the ego/shell (or earth) of air. In this way, it’s stably composed as it seeks to control and maintain the existence of its intellectual constructs and social conceptions. It would constitute the solid, consistent form of air that stably anchors itself in mediation between two distinct modes of activity. For Aquarius, this translates as the concrete existence of one’s collectively individualized mind, like-oriented associations, and intellectual pursuits of construction. It is the pure “body” or container/form of air in expression. As the “earth of air,” Aquarius represents the output creations of air, which would be social groups, experiments, inventions, and collective “maps” of constructing one’s objective understanding. It demonstrates All in Diversity with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating the intellectual/social separateness of others as being of a “different mind” with different individual objectives AND One in Diversity with regards to the Collective as distinguished by a sense of separate intrinsic identities, objectives and groupings assumed within the larger overall group. Also, the fixed/ego aspect of Aquarius indicates its stable identity, inherently composed of diversity, which emphasizes the differences across dimensions—one based in unique and individualized expression, and one based in collective ambitions and social goals. Along these lines, a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent to the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of air occurs through analysis of unique novelty and objective practicality as Aquarius’s air actively expresses to either a) quickly introduce something new, innovative, and different when a stagnation occurs, or b) constructively uphold an objective foundation of rationale when rebellious experimentation has made stability impossible. The “earthiness” that’s also suggested from the fixed/ego expression also implies the passive state of holding onto all air-based associations (unique conceptions, theories, intellectual/social groups or goals) of fortifiable value so as to solidify and ensure their continued existence.

Pisces— As a mutable air sign, it would represent the superego/refinement (or water/air) of water. Since it is inherently a water sign, the water dimension of its superego refinement is most accentuated as Pisces essentially “favors” the rules and standards of water (and its emotional/soul unity) over air (and its mental/social diversity). However, the air aspect that is still latent refers to an innate position that also allows the individualizing conception of the self within a unified, connected dimension of emotional/soul relation and development in a fundamentally “watery” manner. In this way, it is adjustable as it seeks to learn and improve through adherence to the conclusions of a unified emotional and soul nature (with a more dormant, “background” consideration of the more diversified mental and social aspect.) As such, it would mainly constitute the dual, growth-oriented fluctuations of water that civilize its expression through continual refinement. For Pisces, this translates to the way to go about enhancing one’s emotional compassion and expression of unconditional love. It is the pure “soul/mind” or field/idea of water in expression. As the (primarily) “water of water,” Pisces indicates the unity glorified (same soul/source/sufferings) through the standards of importance as considered by water. (The airy side applies to allow an understanding of how individual possibilities are independently expressed according to how they extended to particularize based on choices made among contrast.) This is seen as both One in Sameness with regards to the Particular as distinguished by accentuating the individual connection to others as having the same basic connection to a unified source that each individual is capable of accessing and feeling from within, AND All in Sameness with regards to the Collective as distinguished by the universal drive to expand its consciousness of itself into deeper equality and less differentiated ways of understanding the connectivity of life, devoid of separating boundaries. Also, the mutable/superego aspect of Pisces suggests its adaptability, inherently composed of unity, which emphasizes the similarities across various dimensions—two individual experiences of a situation presenting one shared, underlying emotional/soul commonality. Along these lines, Pisces’ water code of conduct promotes adjustments between a back and forth seesaw that’s naturally inherent as the pressures (high and low) and temperatures (hot and cold) of water occur through synthesis among comparatively shared ideals/experiences/feelings/dreams. (The air’s emphasis on “differentness” complements this by individualizing variations out of the sameness as experiences are separated by each particular individual’s perspective.) The “watery” aspect of this mutable/superego expression is one which simultaneously seeks improvement by being able to connect the differing feelings as various inter-related themes/experiences of some, one whole. The “airiness” that’s also suggested by the mutable/superego expression also implies the drive to make better the methods of appreciating the varied spectrum of individual distinctness, while allowing attachment to shift from one state of being to another as allowed. Finally, the “bottom line” for Pisces (as a fundamentally water sign) with regards to how and why to make adjustments, as the mutable refining of the mind/soul is concerned, pertains to attaining more inclusive understanding of how the interconnected umbrella of unconditional love includes a variety of common, yet uniquely contrasting, experiences together to synthesize the emotional collective and soul of the world. Nothing is “wrong” to the water’s conscience here as long as empathy and compassion are increased.

In short, from these complex breakdowns, the following briefer assignments can be made:

Aries—SPIRIT/Id of Fire (“FIRE of fire”)

Taurus—BODY/Ego of Earth (“EARTH of earth”)

Gemini—MIND(and soul)/Superego of Air (“AIR[and water] of air”)

Cancer—SPIRIT/Id of Water (“FIRE of water”)

Leo—BODY/Ego of Fire (“EARTH of fire”)

Virgo—MIND(and soul)/Superego of Earth (“AIR[and water] of earth”)

Libra—SPIRIT/Id of Air (FIRE of air)

Scorpio—BODY/Ego of Water (EARTH of water)

Sagittarius—SOUL(and mind)/Superego of FIRE (“WATER[and air] of fire”)

Capricorn—SPIRIT/Id of Earth (“FIRE of earth”)

Aquarius—BODY/Ego of Air (“EARTH of air”)

Pisces—SOUL(and mind) of Water (“WATER[and air] of water”)

Finally, and perhaps in the most complex fashion, various relationships can be seen by examining the flow in their order of progression (centered by the cardinal/id aspect and it’s actively forward thrust), in their order of cycle (centered by the fixed/ego and it’s repetitive grounding between two more active pulls), and in their order of transition (centered in the mutable/superego and its constant calling to adjust, change, and refine). If one starts at any sign to start, a repeating pattern of direct progression through the signs is that of “fire, earth, air, water, fire, earth, air, water…” If one begins with any particular modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable) and goes around in sequence among the other signs of its same modality, the reverse pattern is apparent through a repetition of “fire, water, air, earth, fire, water, air, earth…” This oppositional flow shows a paradoxical pull of momentum in two complementary directions as the rotation through the four elements is ordered in two juxtaposed sequences. This paradoxical switch-up of 2 is also represented by how each element toggles between active(yang) and passive(yin) in either type of circuit. Fire is always between water and earth, air is always sequenced between earth and water, earth is always sequenced between fire and water, and water is always sequenced between fire and air. The order is different according to whether one is progressing around directly, or squarely jumping from like modality (i.e. cardinal/id) of one element to like modality(i.e. another cardinal/id) of another element. There’s a sense of moving forward while “pushing off” from what was past, as the two circuits address an evolution from contrasting directions. It’s also quite fitting that the “on” and “off” of fluctuations between the 2 yin(water and earth) and yang(fire earth) expressions is capable of following 2 distinct paths as previously demonstrated.

The movement of 3 occurs in three ways—between three signs of the same element (a trine), between 3 signs participating in the same quadrant of the circle, and among 3 signs centered around any of the 3 modalities (centered with either cardinal/id, fixed/ego, or mutable/superego.)

The movement of 4 can be seen squared by realizing 4 different elements (earth, air, water, and fire) can initiate a connection as a grouping of 4 of the same modality (all either cardinal/id, fixed/ego, or mutable/superego).

Here’s a look at this two-way trip around the wheel:

Aries-As a cardinal sign, it starts up quadrant 1, making it an essentially FIRE quadrant and realm inspiration. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s inner self and inner world, as experienced through themselves. For Aries, this represents one’s inner desires and drives put into action to further experience one’s self. All acts pertaining to establishing one’s self from within, according to themselves, begin here. New personal experiences propel one forward. Among the other cardinal/id signs, it is pushed forward from Capricorn, and leads into Cancer—one’s ambitions in the outer world propel one to act, which propels one to explore the responses in their inner world. Coming after Pisces, there is a burst of energy to move OUT from the reflection and refining of one’s soul and emotions, into an individual existence of action. Leading into Taurus, the results of Aries’ actions “settle down” into the stable values/possession/resources of that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior cardinal, earth square (from Capricorn) also propels Aries towards the next fixed, earth phase (Taurus) to demonstrate a continuity of how the cardinal push to build something in the world through Capricorn, activates the self-energy of Aries, which generates the earthy solidarity regarding Taurus’ resources.

Taurus-As a fixed sign, it centers and grounds quadrant 1. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s inner self and inner world, as experienced through themselves. For Taurus, this represents one’s inner values and resources held onto in order to fortify one’s self. All traits pertaining to becoming/being one’s self from within, according to themselves, begin here. Consistent sustainment stabilizes one’s strength of self. Among the other fixed/ego signs, it is pushed forward from Aquarius, and leads into Leo—one’s social context of innovative participation in the outer world propels one to stabilize their resources, which propels one to explore their creative talents. Coming after Aries, there is a slowing down of energy moving IN from the action and experience of one’s desires, into a settled manifestation of existence. Leading into Gemini, the results of Taurus’ accumulations “move out” into the changing ideas/perspectives/information of that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior fixed, air square (from Aquarius) also propels Taurus towards the next mutable, air phase (Gemini) to demonstrate a continuity of how the fixed social identity of Aquarius, activates the consistent values of Taurus, which generates the airy direction of exploration regarding Gemini’s studies, learning, and expressions.

Gemini- As a mutable sign, it finishes and transitions quadrant 1. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s inner self and inner world, as experienced through themselves. For Gemini, this represents one’s inner thoughts, ideas, and opinions refining to better express one’s self. All learning pertaining to changing one’s self from within, according to themselves (while leaning into interpersonal interaction), begin here. Contrasting information/perspectives (and relational/environmental stimuli) catalyze the self to make necessary shifts. Among the other mutable/superego signs, it is pushed forward from Pisces, and leads into Virgo—one’s sense of collectivity without boundaries in the outer world propels one to freely explore perspectives of diversity, which propels one to integrate the most practical conclusions. Coming after Taurus, there is an adjustment as energy moves OUT from the consistency of one’s values , into a varied approach of exploration and comparison. Leading into Cancer, the results of Gemini’s findings “settle down” into one’s inner relational foundation at that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior mutable, water square (from Pisces) also propels Gemini towards the next cardinal, water phase (Cancer) to demonstrate a continuity of how the mutable emotional collective of Pisces, activates the intellectual curiosity of Gemini, which generates the watery reactions regarding Cancer’s protection and nurturance.

Cancer- As a cardinal sign, it starts up quadrant 2, making it an essentially WATER quadrant and realm of relation. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s inner self and inner world, as experienced in relationship to others. For Cancer, this represents one’s inner instincts and emotions put into action to further experience others. All acts pertaining to establishing one’s self from within, impressed through interpersonal interactions, begin here. New emotional impressions propel one forward. Among the other cardinal/id signs, it is pushed forward from Aries, and leads into Libra—one’s self actions propel one to explore the responses in their inner world, which propels one to explore the contrast of others through relationship. Coming after Gemini, there is a burst of energy to move IN from the reflection and refining of one’s mind and intellect, into a relational existence of action. Leading into Leo, the results of Cancer’s nurturing actions “move out” into the stable specialness/individuality of that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior cardinal, fire square (from Aries) also propels Cancer towards the next fixed, fire phase (Leo) to demonstrate a continuity of how the cardinal push to take self-action and have experience in Aries, activates the relational reflection of Cancer, which generates the fiery solidarity regarding Leo’s creativity and confidence.

Leo-As a fixed sign, it centers and grounds quadrant 2. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s inner self and inner world, as experienced in relationship to others. For Leo, this represents one’s inner enjoyment and pleasure held onto in order to fortify one’s relationships. All traits pertaining to becoming/being one’s self from within, impressed through interpersonal interaction, begins here. Consistent creativity stabilizes one’s specialness of self. Among the other fixed/ego signs, it is pushed forward from Taurus, and leads into Scorpio—one’s personal values and resources within one’s self propels one to stabilize their creative output, which propels one to explore the values of others and the depth of themselves. Coming after Cancer, there is a burst of energy moving OUT from the quiet reflection of who one is, into a dynamic expression of one’s specialness. Leading into Virgo, the results of Leo’s grandiose, dramatic displays “settle down” into the humility/service/self-improvement of that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior fixed, earth square (from Taurus) also propels Leo towards the next mutable, earth phase (Virgo) to demonstrate a continuity of how the fixed values and resources, of Taurus, activate the consistent individuality/creativity/specialness of Leo, which generates the earthy improvement/adjustment of skills regarding Virgo’s functional implementation.

Virgo- As a mutable sign, it finishes and transitions quadrant 2. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s inner self and inner world, as experienced in relationship to others. For Virgo, this represents one’s inner organization, skills, and analyses refining to better express one’s relationships. All learning pertaining to changing one’s self from within (while leaning into the outer world), impressed through interpersonal interaction, begins here. Contrasting methods (and social/mental stimuli) catalyze the self to make necessary shifts. Among the other mutable/superego signs, it is pushed forward from Gemini, and leads into Sagittarius—one’s sense of particular facts, knowledge, and opinions within propels one to use one’s analysis to work effectively/efficiently, which propels one to evaluate the general truths from a collective perspective. Coming after Leo, there is an adjustment as energy moves IN from the consistency of one’s displayed specialness and self-aggrandizement, into a humbled approach of ordinary service and self-deflation. Leading into Libra, the results of Virgo’s analysis/service “move out” into one’s relationship with the outer world at that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior mutable, air square (from Gemini) also propels Virgo towards the next cardinal, air phase (Libra) to demonstrate a continuity of how the mutable intellectual information gathering of Gemini, activates the practical environmental implementation of Virgo, which generates the airy activity of Libra’s social interactions and relationships.

Libra—As a cardinal sign, it starts up quadrant 3, making it an essentially AIR quadrant and realm of socialization. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s outer self and outer world, as experienced in relationship to others. For Libra, this represents one’s outer partnerships and relationships put into action to further experience others. All acts pertaining to establishing one’s self via the outer world, impressed through interpersonal interactions, begins here. New social interactions propel one forward. Among the other cardinal/id signs, it is pushed forward from Cancer, and leads into Capricorn—one’s inner self foundation propels one to explore the contrast of others through relationship, which propels one to define themselves more distinctly in the outer world. Coming after Virgo, there is a burst of energy to move OUT from the internalized criticism and refining of one’s service and function, into an outer existence of social interaction. Leading into Scorpio, the results of Libra’s actions “settle down” into the stable depth/merging of that point. It’s interesting to see that the prior cardinal, water square (from Cancer) also propels Libra towards the next fixed, water phase (Scorpio) to demonstrate a continuity of how the cardinal push to reflect upon one’s inner nature at Cancer, activates the social comparisons of Libra, which generates the watery solidarity regarding Scorpio’s interpersonal penetrations and bonds.

Scorpio—As a fixed sign, it centers and grounds quadrant 3. In this case, it’s the quadrant dedicated to one’s outer self and outer world, as experienced in relationship to others. For Scorpio, this represents one’s outer immersions and transformations held onto to fortify one’s relationships. All traits pertaining to becoming/being one’s self via the outer world, impressed through interpersonal interaction, begins here. Consistent intensification stabilizes one’s depth of self. However, and as with many other systems and ideas, there is always room for a different, deeper, or more expansive perspective…;)
